A 14-day challenge pulled 41% of dormant members back into activity
A community ran a structured 14-day challenge — one small daily task, public check-ins, a shared scoreboard. Of 900 members dormant 30+ days, 41% checked in at least once, and 19% were still active 30 days after the challenge ended.
The challenge SOP:
— ☐ Fixed 14-day length, one task/day, each under 15 min
— ☐ Daily check-in thread, bot-posted, requires a one-line proof
— ☐ Public scoreboard updated daily (streaks visible)
— ☐ Day 14: graduates get a permanent role; cohort channel converts to an alumni channel
The retention trick was the alumni channel — graduates kept a peer group after the challenge. Challenges without an after-home spike then crash. The structure has to hand members somewhere to land.
Save this for your next launch.
