Ch. 14: I Paid $1,400 for a Domain and It Saved Me a Year

Most of my sites start fresh and grind through the sandbox. For my coffee-grinder niche I tried the opposite: I bought an expired domain at auction for $1,400. It had a clean history, 60+ relevant referring domains, and had been a real food blog (not a spam network).

I did the homework — Wayback Machine to confirm it was never a casino site, and checked that the link profile was topically relevant. Then I rebuilt it on the same URL structure where I could.

Fresh sites in this niche took me 8-10 months to see real traffic. This one was at 6,000 sessions by month 3 and $700/mo by month 5. The aged authority let me skip the worst of the sandbox.

It did $2,400/mo by month 12. The $1,400 bought me roughly half a year.

Lesson banked: a clean, topically-relevant expired domain isn't a shortcut to ranking — it's a shortcut past the sandbox, and that's worth thousands.
