Q: Should creators use a trackable affiliate link or the in-app product tag? Does it change what gets sold?
A: A brand tested both with the same 12 creators. In-app product tags (the buyer never leaves the app) converted at 3.6%. Trackable links pushing to the brand's site converted the same creators' audiences at 1.4%.
The gap was friction: the in-app tag is one tap to a checkout the user already trusts; the external link meant a new tab, a slower page, a fresh login. For impulse-priced items, every extra step bled buyers.
Also worth knowing: links still earned their place for products needing detail — size guides, bundles, configurators — where the brand site simply explained more than a tag could.
