Writing the description Google was guessing for you
Today's lesson: in the SERP layout, the grey text under your title is the description, and if you leave it blank Google grabs a random sentence from your page.
Real example: a dentist's listings showed bits of legal text and phone numbers pulled at random. It read awkwardly, and few people clicked.
What they did:
1. Wrote a clear 150-character description for each main page.
2. Started with the benefit ("Gentle dental care in Austin, same-day visits").
3. Made each page's description different.
Think of it like the caption under a shop window display — it should sell, not ramble.
Result: over a month, click rate on those pages rose 11% because the snippet finally read like a friendly invitation.
Try this: pick your most important page and write a 150-character description that starts with the benefit. 🎓
