A brand leaned into polls for reach. Reach spiked, then the next 5 posts underperformed.

The question: do engagement-bait polls help your account, or borrow reach from your future posts?

The case: a B2B brand ran polls heavily for a month, then watched what happened to surrounding organic posts. They compared reach of non-poll posts in poll-heavy weeks versus poll-free weeks. Sample: ~40 non-poll posts across both conditions.

Three findings:
— Polls themselves averaged ~2.5x the reach of normal posts — the headline win everyone screenshots.
— But non-poll posts published within ~5 days of a poll underperformed their baseline by ~18%.
— Follower growth from polls was negligible — high-reach polls attracted low-intent voters who didn't follow.

Limitations: the 'aftereffect' could be regression to the mean, not poll-caused suppression — correlation, not causation. Single brand.

What it means for B2B: a poll's reach may be partly borrowed from your nearby real content, and the borrowed audience rarely converts to followers.

Bottom line: polls won the post but possibly taxed the week — measure the whole window, not the poll alone.
