We dominated 30 micro-questions instead of 1 big one. 5x the total traffic.
Client wanted to win the giant "best email marketing software" question. Bloodbath. 80 answers, impossible to crack the top 3.
We pivoted: targeted 30 ultra-specific questions instead. "Best email tool for Shopify under $50," "Mailchimp vs X for nonprofits," etc.
Each question: tiny audience. Together: ~6,200 clicks/month, and we held position 1-3 on most because almost nobody bothered answering them.
The big question is a popularity contest you'll lose. Thirty boring micro-questions are thirty little monopolies.
Stop fighting the crowd for one trophy. Quietly own the questions they think are too small.
The long tail isn't a fallback. It was the strategy.
