Client's answer ranked position 2, then Google's AI Overview started pulling a sentence FROM it as a source. Felt like a win.
Reality: the AI Overview answered the question on the results page. Clicks to that answer fell ~30% in 8 weeks. Citation, no click.
But — the answers that survived were the ones AI couldn't fully summarize: ones with a personal verdict, a comparison table, a "here's the catch" nobody else had.
Generic Q&A is now AI's training feed.
Write the thing the AI has to send a human to read, or get strip-mined.
