Did noindexing junk pages really lift the pages that matter?

Did noindexing junk pages really lift the pages that matter?

Q: I have tons of tag and archive pages. Worth noindexing them?

A: Short answer: on one large site, very much yes. Longer answer: a 5-year-old blog had 1,800 indexable URLs, but ~1,100 were tag pages, paginated archives, and thin auto-generated pages pulling near-zero traffic. We set those to noindex and tightened the sitemap to only the 700 real articles. Within 7 weeks, Search Console showed Google re-crawling the important pages far more frequently, and 40-plus money articles gained 1 to 4 positions. Crawl budget is finite — every junk URL Google wastes time on is attention stolen from your real content. Tidy the index, feed the winners.
