How one comparison table tripled affiliate clicks on a running site
Month 1: running-gear site, 28k visits, $740/month. Decent traffic, but my affiliate click-through rate was a miserable 4%. People read and left.
Month 3: I audited where clicks happened. Almost all came from one early article that had a sortable comparison table at the top — price, weight, drop, my rating. The wall-of-text reviews barely converted.
The turn: I rebuilt my 15 top review posts to lead with that same sortable table before any prose. Specs people actually compared, my own measured weights, a clear 'best for' tag per shoe.
The setback: the first table template was so heavy it tanked mobile load time and rankings dipped for two weeks until I stripped it to lightweight HTML.
Month 7: affiliate CTR went 4% → 11%. Same 28k traffic, revenue $740 → $1,490. I didn't write one new article — I changed where the decision happened on the page.
The takeaway: most niche-site money is lost between 'read the review' and 'clicked the link.' Give buyers a way to decide in 10 seconds and they decide more often.
