The reply-trigger loop that 3x'd daily messages
A 2,400-member affiliate chat averaged 40 messages/day and felt dead. We built a self-feeding engagement loop around a daily question with a forced format. Daily messages went to ~135 over 4 weeks, no paid promotion.
The loop mechanics:
— ☐ Bot posts one question daily at peak hour (we found 18:00 UTC by message-volume data)
— ☐ Format requires a number or a one-word answer (lowers reply friction)
— ☐ First 5 answers get a mod reaction within 10 min (seeds the thread)
— ☐ Best answer becomes tomorrow's pinned reference
The non-obvious part: the forced-format and the 10-minute mod seeding. Questions with open-ended formats and no seeding got 4 replies. Same audience, structured loop, 60+.
