Cohort-batched onboarding raised completion 2.4x
A course community onboarded members one-by-one whenever they joined. Onboarding completion sat at 29%. We switched to weekly cohorts — everyone who joined Mon-Sun starts together the following Monday. Completion went 29% to 70%.
The cohort SOP:
— ☐ Hold new joins in a staging channel until Monday
— ☐ Monday: open the cohort channel, post a fixed 5-day plan
— ☐ Each day unlocks one task + one peer intro
— ☐ Friday: cohort graduates into the main community together
Why it worked: peers moving in lockstep create accountability and instant social proof. Solo onboarding has no one to fall behind. The staging delay (max 6 days) cost almost nothing against a 2.4x completion lift.
