Q: 'We made some filter pages indexable on purpose. How do we know which ones?'
Short answer: Index filters that match real search demand; one site found 200 worth keeping.
The longer version: A lighting retailer didn't want to nuke ALL facets — some filter combos ARE what people search ('black pendant light', 'outdoor wall sconce'). They pulled Search Console and keyword data, found ~200 filter combinations with genuine, recurring search volume, and made just those indexable with static, keyword-friendly URLs and a unique H1. Everything else got noindexed. Over four months, those 200 pages brought in 19% of total category-level organic traffic — pages that previously didn't exist as landing targets. The key was demand-first selection, not indexing every combination and hoping.
Rule of thumb: A facet deserves indexing only if people search for that exact combination. Let keyword data pick, not your CMS.
