Case study: a tracker revealed where 70% of the budget was wasted
Not tracking yet? This will convince you. A beginner ran a sweepstakes offer across 5 traffic sources at once and spent $80 total. They got 44 leads and earned $66. A $14 loss, and they had no idea why.
Then they added a tracker (a tool that records where each click and lead came from). They re-ran the same $80.
The tracker showed something they could never have seen otherwise:
— Source A: $24 spent, 0 leads
— Source B: $32 spent, 6 leads
— Source C: $8 spent, 19 leads
— Source D: $10 spent, 14 leads
— Source E: $6 spent, 5 leads
Sources A and B took 70% of the money ($56) and produced almost nothing. Sources C and D were quietly carrying the whole campaign.
They turned off A and B and moved that $56 into C and D. The next run, same $80 total:
— 91 leads
— Earned $136.50
— Result: +$56.50
Same offer, same budget, same week. The only new thing was knowing where the leads came from.
The lesson: without tracking you are guessing. With it, you cut the waste in one glance.
Next step: pick one free or low-cost tracker and set it up before your next campaign, even a tiny one.
