Case file: same footage, hook moved to the front
A team had a 30-second ad sitting at a 22% three-second hold rate. They didn't reshoot. They cut the payoff line from second 11 and pasted it as the opening frame.
— Three-second hold rate jumped from 22% to 41%.
— Cost per acquisition dropped roughly 30% off the back of cheaper views.
— Total runtime unchanged, voiceover unchanged.
Why it works: the "wait, what?" moment was buried behind a slow setup. Front-loading the surprise buys the next 27 seconds. Most creatives bury their best line out of habit — start with the ending and let the story explain it backwards.
File under: edits that cost ten minutes and move the number more than a full reshoot.
