What's the one number that quietly destroys deliverability?
It's your spam complaint rate: the share of people who hit "report spam" on your email. Gmail and Yahoo now want it under 0.3%, and ideally under 0.1%. That's just 1 complaint per 1,000 emails.
It sounds tiny, but cross that line and inboxes start filtering everyone, even your fans.
— Step 1: In your tool, find the "complaints" or "abuse" number on your last few sends.
— Step 2: ✅ If it's creeping up, the usual cause is emailing people who forgot you. Only email those who recently engaged.
— Step 3: Always remind people why they're getting this — "You signed up at..." lowers confused complaints.
Why it matters: complaints carry more weight than almost any other signal. One bad send can hurt for weeks.
Homework: look up your complaint rate. Is it under 0.1%?
