Case study: $400 for one quiet word

Case study: $400 for one quiet word

Exclusivity = a promise not to work with competing brands for a set time.

A fitness creator got a $2,000 offer from a protein brand. Buried in the contract: "No competing supplement brands for 6 months." Six months of saying no to other protein deals — that's real money lost.

She replied: "I can do exclusivity, but it's priced separately. Add $400, or we drop the clause."

The brand kept the clause and paid the extra $400. Deal closed at $2,400.

The lesson: exclusivity is never free. It limits your future income, so it should add to your fee.

Your move: spot the exclusivity clause first. Then ask, "What's this costing me?" and charge for it.
