Do I write the pillar page first or the cluster posts first?
Q: Building my first topic cluster — what order do I publish in?
A: Short answer: publish the supporting posts first, the pillar last. Longer answer: a pillar page is supposed to link out to detailed posts and pull their relevance up. If you publish the pillar with nothing to link to, it's a hollow page promising depth it can't deliver yet. Build 4-6 specific posts first, get them indexed, then write the pillar that ties them together and links to each — and link each post back up to the pillar. That gives you a finished, interlinked cluster instead of an orphaned hub. One nuance: if the pillar targets a huge head term, you can stub it early and expand it as the cluster fills in. Either way, it's strongest when the supporting content exists.
Anyone want me to go deeper on this? React 👍
