<b>"Switching niches resets the algorithm against you"</b>
The received wisdom: change topics and TikTok punishes you for confusing it. Sounds plausible if you imagine an account-level "category."
Why it's wrong: the system re-classifies every video independently, so a new topic just gets tested against a new audience from scratch. What actually drops is <i>your existing followers' engagement</i> — they followed you for cooking, not crypto, so your guaranteed first batch reacts coldly, which dampens the early ratio. That's an audience problem, not an algo grudge.
What's actually true: a fresh account or muted follower base can outperform your "warm" one for off-topic content, because it skips the cold first batch.
The algorithm doesn't hold grudges. Your old followers do.
