When you add a picture, WordPress shows a field called "Alt text." Most people leave it blank. Don't.

Alt text is a short written description of the image, like "golden retriever puppy chewing a blue slipper."

Why it matters, two reasons:
— People using screen readers (software that reads pages aloud for blind users) hear your description instead of silence.
— Search engines can't "see" pictures, so they read your alt text to understand them. Good alt text helps you show up in image search.

How: click any image, find the "Alt text" box on the right, and describe what's actually shown in plain words. Skip phrases like "image of."
