How to set an engagement benchmark you can trust
Everyone says: "A good LinkedIn engagement rate is 3-5%."
Against what number? Most people divide by followers, which is wrong, and then panic at a fake benchmark. Set a real one:
— Divide engagements by impressions, not followers. Impressions is who actually saw it.
— Build your own baseline from your last 20 posts. Throw out the top and bottom — outliers lie.
— Track the rolling median, not the average. One viral post drags the mean for a month.
— Re-baseline quarterly. The platform changes the denominator on you.
Generic benchmarks compare your reality to someone's screenshot.
It's not a 5% rule. It's whether this week beat your own honest median.
