"Negativity hooks harder" is only half right
The theory: fear and mistakes outperform wins. So everything opened negative: "You're losing money and you don't even know it." 3s retention 79%. Fine. But it attracted anxious lurkers who didn't convert, and my saves stayed flat.
I tested pairing the negative with an immediate forward pull: "You're losing money on this, and the fix takes 90 seconds." Same fear, plus a near, achievable payoff in the same breath.
3s retention 84%. But the real change: saves jumped 4x because the hook promised a quick, doable win.

The lesson: negativity opens the loop, but a fast, specific fix in the same sentence is what makes people stay and save. Fear alone just stresses them out the door.
