Today's lesson: a thumbnail — the small image that sometimes sits to the left of a search result, common on phones — makes your listing catch the eye and grab more taps.
Think of it like a book with a cover photo standing out on a shelf of plain spines.
Here's your checklist:
1. Add one strong, relevant image high up on the page, near the top heading.
2. Make it a clear, simple picture that reads well even when tiny, no busy clutter.
3. Give it descriptive alt text and a real file name so Google connects it to the page topic.
Google tends to grab the most prominent, relevant image. A weak, decorative one at the bottom rarely gets chosen.
Try this: open one page on your phone and judge whether its top image would shrink well. 🎓
