Let me tell you what happened when I attacked the viewer's belief. My old hook for a posting-time video was "The best time to post is when your audience is online." Sensible. Boring. 43% at three seconds.
Here's the thing — agreement is not a pattern interrupt. Nobody stops scrolling for a sentence they already nod at. So I flipped it into a false-belief callout: "You're posting at the worst possible time and your analytics are lying to you."
The result: retention at three seconds jumped from 43% to 70%, and saves tripled from 200 to 640.
The lesson: don't confirm what they think — accuse what they think. A hook that says "you're wrong about X" forces them to stay and defend themselves.
