Let me tell you about a tutorial that should've worked. The hook: "Here's how I edit captions in CapCut in 30 seconds." Nothing wrong with it — except retention bled to 38% by the five-second mark.
Here's the thing — I'd answered the whole video in the first sentence. Name the tool, name the speed, and the curiosity gap snaps shut. No reason to stay.
So I rewrote it to withhold the <i>how</i>: "There's a 30-second caption trick that took me two years to find." Same tutorial underneath.
The result: 38% climbed to 64% at five seconds, views went 9k to 71k.
The lesson: your hook should open the loop, not close it. Tease the outcome, hide the mechanism.
