Myth: add AggregateRating schema even without reviews to get stars
'Q: My new products have no reviews yet. Can I add a default 5-star AggregateRating so I get stars in search?'
Short answer: No — that's a structured data violation that earns a manual action, not stars.
The longer version: review stars in the SERP are tempting, but Google's policy is explicit: marked-up ratings must reflect genuine reviews actually visible on the page. Injecting a default rating with no real reviews, or marking up reviews you collected on a third-party site but don't display, is exactly the kind of thing that triggers a "Spammy structured markup" manual action — which can strip rich results across your whole site, not just the offending page.
If you have no reviews, ship the page with valid Product and Offer markup (price, availability) and add Review/AggregateRating once real reviews land. Real Offer markup alone still gets you price and stock in the snippet.
Rule of thumb: only mark up what a user can see on the page. No reviews, no rating markup.
