Two placements, two very different effects.
Rating in the table:
— compresses a judgment into a glance, which is what the table is for;
— must be on one scale, from one source, with the review count visible;
— works best as the second or third column, right after the product name.
Reviews under the table:
— give the visitor a reason to believe the rating;
— should be short: a two-line summary, one pro, one con, then a link to the full review;
— ordered the same way as the table, so the visitor can jump between them.
What confuses visitors:
— a rating in the table that does not match the tone of the review below it;
— a star rating and a numeric score side by side with different results;
— user reviews mixed with editorial reviews without labeling.
If you have both editorial and user scores, show them as two clearly labeled columns or drop one. Two unexplained numbers next to each other cost more trust than either gains.
