Myth: long story captions boost dwell time
I wrote paragraph captions to "keep them on the post." Tested against one-liners.
On Reels, almost nobody expands the caption mid-scroll — dwell is the VIDEO, not the text. The long captions did zero for retention and buried my hook line under a "more."
The one-liner that adds tension to the video (not repeats it) outperformed every time.
10-min fix: cut your next caption to one line that makes the silent viewer want sound on. Dump the essay.
