Playbook: The Bulk Status-Check QA Gate
Before any outreach batch ships, every "dead" URL gets re-verified. False positives burn credibility.
1. Re-run all flagged URLs through a fresh status check, not cached.
2. Flag soft-404s: 200 status but "page not found" body text.
3. Test from two regions — kill geo-redirects masquerading as 404s.
4. Follow redirect chains; a 301-to-live is NOT dead.
5. Confirm the referring page still links to the dead URL (it may already be fixed).
6. Strip any URL that passes any of the above.
— Automation fits everywhere here: schedule the re-check 24h before send.
Definition of done: 100% of outreach targets confirmed truly dead within the last 24 hours, soft-404s and live-redirects removed.
