Q: "Doesn't adding product tags get your post downranked by the algorithm?"
A: This one persists but isn't how current commerce platforms work. TikTok and Instagram actively want shoppable content and surface it in dedicated shop feeds and tabs. A tag itself isn't a reach penalty — weak content is.
What truly suppresses reach:
— Low watch time and quick scroll-aways
— Spammy captions, banned words, or watermark from another app
— High report or hide rates
A well-made tagged video can get extra distribution through shop placements a plain video never sees.
Also worth knowing: the old "links kill reach" fear came from off-platform outbound links, which is a different thing from native product tags that keep users in-app.
