AI answers rarely choose a page because of schema alone. They use it as a confidence signal: entity names, page type, authorship, dates, product details, FAQs, and ratings become easier to parse when the markup matches the visible content.
Use structured data where it removes ambiguity:
• Article or BlogPosting for editorial pages
• Product for product pages
• FAQPage only when the questions and answers are truly on-page
• Organization and Person to connect brand and author entities
• BreadcrumbList to clarify hierarchy
Do not dump every schema type on every page. Bad markup can weaken trust when the visible page says one thing and the structured data says another. Keep names, prices, descriptions, and canonical URLs consistent. If the page is thin, schema will not rescue it.
Best use: make your important claims machine-readable, then support them with clear headings, short definitions, and internal links. Structured data is not a ranking trick; it is a parsing aid. When AI systems can understand the page faster, they are more likely to cite it or reuse it correctly.
