Sync is the opposite of backup. When you delete or corrupt a file, sync faithfully replicates that deletion to every device in seconds. Ransomware encrypts your folder and your "backup in the cloud" obediently syncs the encrypted garbage everywhere. Versioning saves you 30 days, maybe, if you notice in time. A real backup is a separate, point-in-time copy the source can't reach back and overwrite. Sync mirrors your mistakes at light speed. It is not a safety net. Fight me in the comments.
