Myth: premium publishers mean premium results
Wrong. You're paying a 4x CPM for a Tier-1 logo, not for performance. The same widget code, the same recommendation algorithm, the same outbrained "You won't believe" creative runs on the WSJ and on a recipe blog. The publisher's brand doesn't transfer to your placement at the bottom of the article where nobody scrolled with intent.
What actually moves your numbers? The user's mindset at the moment of click. Someone finishing a finance read is not your buyer just because the URL is prestigious. Test it: split the same creative across a premium site and a junk arbitrage site at matched bids. Watch the post-click conversion. Usually identical. You overpaid for the address.
