Ch. 21: Bought guest posts vs HARO links
My pet-nutrition site stalled at DR 8 in month 10. I had $1,200 for links. Option one: six guest posts at $200 each on niche-relevant DR 30-40 blogs. Option two: a $99/mo HARO-style service for journalist requests.
I split it. The six guest posts moved DR to 14 in a month — fast, predictable, but every one was a 'sponsored-feeling' link on a site that also sold links to my competitors. The HARO route took 4 months and 60 pitches to land 3 links, but two were on a DR 70 news site and a university blog. Those two moved rankings on my hardest commercial page more than all six guest posts combined.
Lesson banked: paid guest posts buy DR fast and shallow. Earned editorial links are slow and brutal, but a single real one outweighs a dozen bought ones on competitive terms.
