Ch. 21: Adding a Second Income Stream Without Hurting the First
My hobby-electronics site was 100% Amazon at a thin 3%. One commission cut could halve me. I de-risked with a structured rollout.
— Listed my top 10 money pages and the products on each
— Found a direct manufacturer affiliate program paying 8% on 4 of those products
— A/B tested: added the higher-paying link as the PRIMARY button on 2 pages, kept Amazon as backup
— Watched conversion for 3 weeks — direct converted slightly lower but the 8% won on revenue
— Rolled the winner to the other pages only after confirming no total-revenue drop
Revenue per click on those pages went up 60%. And I was no longer one Amazon decision from disaster.
Lesson banked: single-program dependence isn't a revenue strategy, it's a countdown. Add the second stream while the first is healthy, not after it's cut.
