Myth: product schema boosts your rankings

Myth: product schema boosts your rankings

'Q: I added Product structured data. That should lift my rankings, correct?'

Short answer: No — schema doesn't raise rankings. It changes how your result looks, not where it sits.

The longer version: Product, Offer, and AggregateRating markup are eligibility signals for rich results — price, stars, availability in the snippet. Those rich results can lift click-through rate, and better CTR plus richer presentation matters. But Google has repeatedly said structured data is not a ranking factor. You won't outrank a competitor just because you have more JSON-LD.

The payoff is real, just indirect: a result showing 4.6 stars and "$49, in stock" earns more clicks than a plain blue link at the same position. Treat schema as conversion-rate optimization in the SERP, not a rank lever.

Rule of thumb: schema wins you the click, not the position. Earn the position with content and links.

Follow-up: yes, fake review stars get manual actions. Only mark up reviews you actually display.
