My content is great — why did a core update still hit me?
Q: I genuinely write helpful stuff and a core update still dropped me. If it's about quality, why me?
A: Short answer: core updates aren't only about quality — they re-weigh relevance and intent too. Longer answer: sometimes your content is fine, but Google decided a different format better matches what searchers want for that query (a video, a forum thread, a tool). You didn't get worse; the bar for that specific query moved. That's why "just write better" doesn't always explain a drop.
Before you panic-rewrite:
— check if the SERP layout itself changed (new formats ranking?)
— see if it's a few queries or sitewide
— look for an intent mismatch, not a quality flaw
Diagnose before you demolish. Not every drop means your work is bad.
Anyone want me to go deeper on this? React 👍
