Stuffing 80 keyword-rich links in the footer doesn't sculpt anything. It dilutes everything.
Unpopular opinion: the sitewide footer link dump is the single most overrated internal-linking tactic alive. PageRank divides across every link on a page. Add 80 footer links to every URL and you've split each page's equity into 80 thin slices that flow to pages nobody intended to boost. Boilerplate links also carry near-zero contextual weight — Google heavily discounts links that appear identically on every page.
The fix: cut the footer to navigation essentials. Move topical links into body content where context makes them count.
How many links are in your footer right now? Be honest — and brave.
