Head-to-head: Bing vs Google crawl-to-index lag (60-URL benchmark)

Setup: I published 60 brand-new URLs on an established domain and timestamped first-index in each engine, using GSC URL Inspection and Bing's URL inspection (both free), no submission — organic discovery only.

What it did well:
— Clean, repeatable: median Bing first-index was 1.4 days; Google was 4.6 days
— Bing's variance was tighter (most within 3 days); Google had a long tail out to 18 days

Where it fell short:
— Sample is one domain — authority skews everything; a fresh domain would be far slower in both
— 'Indexed' ≠ 'ranking'; Bing indexed fast but several URLs never gained Bing traffic

Verdict: useful baseline — Bing is genuinely faster to index, Google is slower but converts to traffic better here.

Best for: setting realistic expectations. Not for: drawing universal laws from one domain.
