How proper headings won a reader a featured spot on Google
A reader's how-to article was buried on page two of Google. The content was good, but it was one giant wall of text with no structure.
He reorganized using headings. Headings are the titles and subtitles that break an article into sections, like chapter names in a book. WordPress calls them Heading 2, Heading 3, and so on.
His changes:
— Split the article into clear steps, each with its own Heading 2.
— Phrased a few as real questions people search, like 'How long does it take?'.
Within six weeks, Google promoted his answer into a 'featured snippet', the boxed answer shown at the very top. His traffic to that page tripled.
In plain words: clear headings help both readers and Google find the answer, and can lift you to the top spot.
