The handover period is where you protect your reputation or torch it — and most sellers wing it.
The post-close playbook:
— Define the support window precisely: hours included, response time, end date. 'I'll help out' is a trap with no exit.
— Put every answer in writing or recorded video, so 'you never told me' can't become a dispute.
— Honor a tight non-compete but get it in writing what's EXCLUDED — your other projects, your audience, your name.
— Hand off relationships (partners, vendors) with a warm intro, then step back cleanly.
A clean exit is a referral machine. A messy one follows you.
Longest support window you'd ever agree to? Drop a number.
