Myth: Get a green GTmetrix grade and your Core Web Vitals are fixed

Myth: Get a green GTmetrix grade and your Core Web Vitals are fixed

A GTmetrix A is lab data from a single test server. Google ranks on field data (CrUX) — real Chrome users over 28 days. You can score A on GTmetrix and still fail Core Web Vitals in Search Console because actual phones on actual networks tell a different story.

GTmetrix (free, $14.95/mo Pro)
👍 Repeatable lab test, waterfall, location/device control on paid
👎 Lab ≠ field; no real-user data on free tier

PageSpeed Insights / CrUX (free)
👍 Shows the field data Google actually uses to rank
👎 Needs enough traffic to populate; vague on what to fix

The correction: chase the "Core Web Vitals" report in GSC, not a third-party letter grade. Use GTmetrix to reproduce and debug a problem field data already flagged.

Best for: PSI/CrUX to know if you have a problem; GTmetrix to chase down why.
