Myth: Ahrefs search volume is the number you should plan content around
"Target the 2,400/mo keyword" assumes Ahrefs volume equals real impressions. It doesn't — it's a clickstream-modeled estimate, and Google Search Console shows your actual impressions for the same query, often 3-5x off either way.
Ahrefs ($129/mo Lite)
👍 Finds keywords you don't rank for yet
👎 Volume is modeled, not measured; clusters near-duplicates as one number
GSC (free)
👍 Real impressions/clicks for queries you already touch
👎 Blind to anything you don't rank for; samples and hides long-tail
Use Ahrefs to discover, then validate the winners against GSC impressions before you commit a writer. Planning purely off Ahrefs volume is how you publish a "high-volume" page that pulls 40 impressions a month.
Best for: Ahrefs for net-new discovery; GSC for deciding what's actually worth refreshing.
