A knowledge panel shows a wrong fact — now what
Today's lesson: a knowledge panel — the fact box on the right of a brand or person — sometimes lists the wrong founding year or an old logo. Beginners panic and try to edit Google directly. You can't type into the panel.
Think of it like a rumor at school. You don't argue with the rumor; you make the true version louder everywhere people listen.
Here's the calm fix:
1. Make sure the correct fact appears clearly on your own official page first.
2. Check that trusted sources (your social profiles, directories, press pages) all agree on the same fact.
3. If you're verified, use Google's "Suggest an edit" link on the panel itself to flag the error.
Google trusts agreement. Conflicting facts across the web are usually the real culprit.
Try this: find one brand panel and check the founded year against the company's own About page. 🎓
