CPM and RPM are not the same axis
A term defined once, then never again: CPM = what advertisers pay per 1k impressions. RPM = what you earn per 1k pageviews (or sessions). They diverge on ad count.
— 2 ads/page, CPM $3.00 → page RPM $6.00 ▮▮▮▮▮▮
— 4 ads/page, CPM $2.40 → page RPM $9.60 ▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮
— 6 ads/page, CPM $1.80 → page RPM $10.80 ▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮▮
n=illustrative. More ads lift RPM even as CPM falls — until viewability/speed claw it back past ad 5.
So what: a falling CPM with rising RPM is healthy, not broken. Watch RPM/CPM ratio, cap it before speed taxes you. Ads ▲, CPM ▼ -40%, RPM ▲ +80%
