Q4 is the obvious one — advertiser budgets flush out in November and December, CPMs spike, and publishers who planned for it can 2-3x their normal earnings. But Q1 is the mirror image. Budget cycles reset, demand drops hard, and if your content strategy didn't account for Q1 traffic, you're hit twice.
What top earners do differently in Q4: they build content specifically targeting high-CPM categories — personal finance, insurance, home improvement, software reviews — starting in October. This content is indexed by the time advertiser budgets peak.
For Q1 survival: keep a cash reserve from Q4 and use the lower-RPM months to focus on content production and technical optimization rather than panicking about revenue. The sites that treat Q1 as infrastructure season come out stronger in Q2.
Plan the cycle, don't react to it.

Seasonal RPM swings are predictable. Most publishers still get blindsided by them.
