<b>The "free SSL" that quietly becomes a paid line item</b>
They told you: <i>"Free SSL included — they care about security."</i>
The free cert is Let's Encrypt, which every host gets for $0. What's <i>not</i> free is what they upsell on top: a "Premium SSL" or "SiteLock" badge marketed as essential, plus malware scanning that's just a fear-based monthly fee. The genuinely free thing is dressed up to sell you the paid thing next to it.
Follow the money: security upsells are pure margin — no inventory, no labor, just a checkbox and a scary tooltip.
Reality: They gave you the free lock so they could sell you the imaginary one.
