Diagnosing where the page loses people
"High bounce rate means the page is bad." [MOSTLY MYTH] It spread because bounce is the easiest metric to misread. The truth: bounce alone tells you nothing about where attention died. Diagnose with scroll and movement:
— Pull a scroll-depth report. Find the section where the drop-off cliff is.
— The section right before the cliff is your suspect, not the one after.
— Watch 10 session recordings that stop there. Look for the rapid scroll-back: confusion. The dead stop: friction.
— Form the hypothesis from the behavior, then change only that block and re-measure.
The nuance: bounce on a single-page offer can mean they read everything and left to think. Scroll depth plus recordings tell you whether they fled or finished. One number alone is a rumor, not a diagnosis.
