SOP #56 — The Hosting Migration Runbook
A botched migration tanks rankings in week one. Run this sequence on every transfer.
1. Take a full backup of files and database before touching anything. Fail if no backup exists.
2. Stand up the site on your hosting with a staging URL. Confirm it renders fully. Fail on errors.
3. Lower the DNS TTL to 300 seconds 48 hours before the switch. Fail if TTL is still at days.
4. Switch DNS during the seller's lowest-traffic hour. Fail if you cut over at peak.
5. Crawl the live site post-switch for broken links and missing pages. Fail on any 404 that was a 200.
6. Keep the old host live for 14 days as fallback. Fail if you cancel it immediately.
