Click depth is the wrong metric — measure link distance from your hubs
Unpopular opinion: 'three clicks from home' is a lazy KPI. Click depth from the homepage tells you almost nothing about equity, because your homepage isn't always your strongest internal authority source. A page two clicks from home but zero strong inlinks is weaker than a page four clicks deep but linked from your top hub.
Measure shortest path AND inlink quality from your highest-PageRank internal pages, not just distance from /. Crawl depth is a crawlability tool; equity distance is a ranking tool.
Still optimizing depth-from-home and ignoring which pages actually pass the juice?
