Live price API vs cached price: stale prices cost 6% of orders
Amazon's Operating Agreement bans showing a price unless it's pulled live via PA-API within the hour. Comparing approaches on a deals page (n=2,900 sessions):
— Hardcoded/cached price: 6.3% of clickers bounced at the product page on price mismatch
— Live PA-API price (refreshed hourly): mismatch bounces near 0
The tradeoff: live pricing burns API calls fast (one per product per pageview without caching). Smart middle ground — cache for 60 min, show "price as of [time]".
So what: never show a static price. The mismatch bounce wastes the click AND risks account termination for ToS violation.
